Eastern Anatolia is one of Turkey's seven geographical regions, characterized by towering mountains, vast plateaus, and deep valleys. The history of Eastern Anatolia dates back to ancient times, with civilizations such as the Urartians, Armenians, Persians, Romans, and Byzantines leaving their mark on the region.

Historical Treasures of Eastern Anatolia
The Kingdom of Urartu: In the 9th century BCE, the Urartians established a powerful kingdom around Lake Van, with their capital in Tuşpa (Van). The Van Fortress still stands as an impressive reminder of this period.
The Ruins of Ani: In the Middle Ages, the city of Ani, located in today's Kars province, was the capital of the Armenian Kingdom.
Ottoman Rule: With the expansion of the Ottoman Empire, Eastern Anatolia came under Ottoman control. However, the region was often marked by conflict due to its strategic location.
Modern Era: After the War of Independence, Turkey's borders were defined by the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923, and Eastern Anatolia became an integral part of Turkey.
